If I feel the first symptoms of a chill like running nose and sneezing, I hasten to the kitchen to cook chicken broth containing different spices. It’s true that pepper, garlic, onion and lemon in combination with the warm broth help to feel better soon. I pour it in the cup and drink slowly, wrapped myself in a blanket.

Spicy chicken broth

2 liter water
3 pounds chicken legs
1 big onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon peppercorns
1 teaspoon allspice seeds
1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/4 teaspoon rosemary seeds
2 little leaves peppermint
1 lemon segment
½ clove garlic, grated
1 bay leaf

1. Place chicken, onion and all species and seeds into a big saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 80 minutes.
2. Take out meat, garlic and strain the broth. Add lemon.

This simple recipe I would recommend to everybody, especially to the elderly persons who suffer from upset stomach and “steer to a middle course”.

2 liters water
1 chicken, chopped in large pieces
2 tablespoons butter
a pinch of salt
1 lemon

1. Put chicken in a big saucepan. Add salt and cook for 60 to 90 minutes. Try to skim the foam during boiling.
2. Remove the chicken pieces and save them for soup meat. Pour the broth through a strainer, add pepper and butter.
3. Squeeze the juice out of a lemon and add it into the broth.

As my children were just toddlers I used to cook this broth very often and had no problems with playing up – they ate it willingly.

2 liters water
1 pound chicken fillet
2 sliced carrots
6 ounces celery, chopped
1 bay leaf

1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook for 1 hour.
2. Pour out the broth in a big bowl, take out meat and carrot with a skimmer.
